When providing chest compressions in a newborn, it may be reasonable to repeatedly deliver 3 compressions followed by an inflation (3:1 ratio). The same study demonstrated that the risk of death or prolonged admission increases 16% for every 30-second delay in initiating PPV. Therapeutic hypothermia is recommended in infants born at 36 weeks' gestation or later with evolving moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
